At Rothwell's Martial Arts we teach a wide variety of different karate disciplines from traditional basics, kata and sparring, to weapons and real life self defense. |
Basics | Every martial arts style is built on good strong basics. From how we stand, to how we make a fist, even how we walk. Good karate finds its foundation in good basics. In each class we devote some time to basics.
Kata | Kata is a formal exercise whereby the student engages in defense and attack techniques with imaginary opponents. Kata contains all of the techniques and principles of Karate, with a little time and practice kata movements become natural and instinctive. As students progresses, you will learn different katas for each belt level. |
|
Weapons | Weapons training is an important part of karate. The Bo Staff is probably one of the first weapons that mankind used to defend and hunt. Students learn how to use a Bo Staff as their first weapon. They will be taught how use the staff properly with control. As students progress they will be taught how to use other weapons.
Sparring | Sparring teaches proper control and technique. It is one thing to practice a low block but to use it effectively is another, and sparring teaches you the difference. Full safety gear is always worn when sparring. It is done in a safe and controlled environment with proper supervision.
Self Defense | Real life self defense is a very different thing from the classroom to the street. The best defense is avoid the situation, but if you find yourself in a situation where you need to defend yourself you need to react instantly. We will train you to be able react. |
