At Rothwell's Martial Arts we teach a wide variety of different karate disciplines from traditional basics, kata and sparring, to weapons and real life self defense.
Basics Basics Every martial arts style is built on good strong basics. From how we stand, to how we make a fist, even how we walk. Good karate finds its foundation in good basics. In each class we devote some time to basics.
Kata kata

Kata is a formal exercise whereby the student engages in defense and attack techniques with imaginary opponents. Kata contains all of the techniques and principles of Karate, with a little time and practice kata movements become natural and instinctive. As students progresses, you will learn different katas for each belt level.

Weapons Weapons Weapons training is an important part of karate. The Bo Staff is probably one of the first weapons that mankind used to defend and hunt. Students learn how to use a Bo Staff as their first weapon. They will be taught how use the staff properly with control. As students progress they will be taught how to use other weapons.
Sparring Sparring Sparring teaches proper control and technique. It is one thing to practice a low block but to use it effectively is another, and sparring teaches you the difference. Full safety gear is always worn when sparring. It is done in a safe and controlled environment with proper supervision.
Self Defense Self Defence Real life self defense is a very different thing from the classroom to the street. The best defense is avoid the situation, but if you find yourself in a situation where you need to defend yourself you need to react instantly. We will train you to be able react.
